Mortgage Application Decline after survey?

Hi,

We have put in our formal application for a mortgage with Halifax, and are waiting for the written offer to be sent out. We are first time buyers and while my other half has a very healthy bank account (and the payments would be made from his account), my bank account is always in my overdraft, due to some problems I had a few years ago. The broker didn't seem to think this would cause a problem when we applied though.

We have paid for the valuation survey and homebuyers report, and this was due to be carried out today. We had a phone call from the broker today saying Halifax want our last 3 months bank statements (we had only been asked for one previously), and I am a bit worried that they will now decline us because of my account.

Is this likely? Would we have any grounds for appeal so we don't lose the money or the house if they do?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

From what i was told by my broker if they are not happy with the statements you provide then they will not go ahead with the application and may lead to losing some of the money put in for surveys.

My broker put the survey on hold so they could double check my payslips and bank account before the survey money was taken so that i didnt lose to much if it was declined.
