Hello, I am trying to file for a tax re-claim for the year 2009/2010 however not sure which tax office to contact. Do I need to contact the tax office for the employer I worked for during 2009/2010 or the tax office for the employer I work for now? I have not moved house at all but my tax office has changed from South Wales in 2009/2010 to Worcester & Hereford during 2010/2011. (I live and work in Oxford area all years.)

I am quite concerned about sending off my P45 etc to the wrong tax office and then never seeing it again. I will probably do a recorded delivery for it just in case.

Would that not be a P60 rather than a P45? Whichever - send it to the office you currently deal with. Copy the document first and send the original. Don't send it recorded as it's a waste of money / time. These are high volume (incoming post) offices and the tracking is usually not updated by Royal Mail.

I don't have a P60 for the tax year I wish to claim for (09/10) as I left employment during December 2009 and didn't re-enter employment until the following tax year (no benefits claimed either). So I'm using a P45.

why not call them to see if all the info is held, if it is, then the advisor on the phone might be able to organise the refund, or at least advise what info is missing.

All the employers should have submitted P14's for 09/10 by now, though the main culprit being the DWP who still haven't submitted a lot of JSA info, this is causing a big backlog in calculations for 9/10

As for which office to send it to, any office can deal with it now, all the records have been centralised since July 2009
