Telephone no for HMRC accounts bradford?

Hi all,

I sent my tax underpayment cheque off to accounts in bradford on 7 feb was taken out of my account on 10 feb but having contacted the helpline is still not showing up as having been paid. Just want to get it confirmed as I believe they send you self aasessment fiorms to fill im if you dont pay the tax underpayment so I just want it showing on their systems that it has been paid.

The helpline said they will chase it up for me and then write to me, but I would like to ring accounts in bradford myself I I had their number if anyone knows it as I can't find it on google.

Thanks, I rang and they say its going to take up to 3 weeks to sort it out with the relavant department so that it shows up paid on my account. Just want it to show up clear so that they don't start to send self assessment forms to fill as they threaten to do if you don't pay the underpayment.

While on the phone I asked and they said that my tax affairs are now shown as balanced for the years to date as they also have told me a few times before. Just wondering if they were to have a look again and send me a tax underpayment for 07/08 as some people have got it it a good enough defence on my part to say "but you told me that my years to date have been reviewed and my tax affiars are shown as balanced" more or less the words of the person on the helpline.

    thanks
    John

From memory of your other posts .... the payment you've made is a Voluntary Direct Payment? Which takes weeks to 'show up' as there is no assessment for it to lodge against. It doesn't show in SA and - unless they've created an individual accounting record on the new PAYE system - it doesn't show there either. So most people within HMRC won't know where to look for it.

As I've said before - it's a bemusingly archaic method they're deploying for these underpayments. They would do everyone a favour - including themselves - by creating an informal SA charge to put these against.

I wouldn't worry about it .... you have evidence of payment - simply leave it at that? It's a bit open ended but you could spend some time chasing it. For anyone else paying 'voluntarily' ..... request a receipt when you send the payment. And do it by cheque, as that facilitates the receipt request .... nothing else does.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
