We have a 12 week old baby and before we had him we signed up to all of the baby clubs to get money off nappy coupons and wipes and saved them up for asda/tesco baby event to get even more for our money.

We spend about £40 a week for us and normally an extra £15 on our son dependent upon whether we need formula/milk.

We opt for the 3 for £10 deals for meat and that gives us about 8 meals once we split all of the food up. We also buy foods in season and shop around for the deals as we have access to all the main supermarkets close by.

I think you are spending pretty much the right amount, we get a bottle of wine a month but we do have treats every now and then like a tesco meal deal.
Again I use vouchers like the other ms

how do you manage to spend less tha 50p per day, per person on 3 square meals per day?

I think you could probably do it...but not with much variation and might not be that healthy.

Breakfast - Porridge made with water and no topping (30p per week)

Lunch - Sandwich with processed white bread and something like cheese? (£1 per week)

Dinner - Baked Potato with canned vegetables

Personally I could do it - I spend that much a week on my fruit let alone anything else. I do think that on the whole food is not something it is worth sacrificing for so I spend around £35-40 a week for my food.

There are two of us in our household and I try and do it for £50 per week. This includes all cleaning products and toiletries. Some weeks I can do it but other weeks it will come to about £57 - with the price of everything going up. I always cook from scratch and that hardly includes any treats (we are healthy anyway and don't buy loads of chocolates etc). This covers breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    Hope this helps.

  • £150 pcm. Includes cleaning items but not toiletries. Boyfriend buys his lunch out but I try to take a packed lunch. I'm vegetarian and boyfriend eats the same dinners as me but sometimes buys things like sliced meat for weekend lunches. We don't drink alcohol but do buy a lot of diet cola.

I spend about £50 for two adults and 1 toddler per week

    subsidised canteen at work.
I do not buy alcoholic drinks.
I do a lot of cooking from scratch but do buy some ready meals.

I do get quite a bit of free food at and from work which keeps my costs down alot.
however I am into heavy weight training and 17 stone so my diet is very high in kcals and protein which is not the cheapest diet to eat.

I work it out per month my budget is 250 a month. Thats for 2 adults, two children and a cat. First week of pay day i can do 170 quid straight off but that's all my food for the freezer for the month with 3 for tenner on meat etc. All my cupboard stuff, all cleaning stuff and toiletrees and cat food. The 150 quid with also include my fridge stuff for 2 weeks. I cooked everything from scratch and cook all in advance and freeze. I never need alot of toiletrees as i buy glitches with Body shop, boots etc. If something is not on offer i will buy value as long as the taste is okay. I wont buy value with meat, bread and some other things but those things are always on offer anyway. 150 quid approx with Asda and 20 odd quid with Lidl. The rest of the budget then after the two weeks will do little bits as i run out and then whatever i got left is used for a final shop half way through the month. I very rarly go over. I am a very careful with what i buy. I look on here the food shopping board, i look on hot deals and i look at the Lidl leaflets. I always bulk buy which is why i wont budget per week but monthly instead. Alcohol is not included in that budget but we take that out of our 30 quid budget we have for special occasions. That 30 quid is what we have in the pot per week. Its our treat money.

I'm pretty good at budgeting, so although hubby and I eat well, we spend a maximum of £80 per month on groceries (food/ cleaning products etc). This has been as little at £60 when we've been on a real economy drive!

Saying that, we are on a budget at the moment, but if we weren't I imagine that would go up to about £100-£120 as it would be nice to have a few more luxuries (we eat well, but don't buy the lots of treats!)
Thank you to all the compers!
