rossendales collect letter

hi, i've just received a letter from this co but i've no idea what it is for. having read some posts on here it appears they chase council tax arrears or parking ticket fees.
they seem to be bullies and give a lot of hassle which i can do without. the letter is asking if i am the person named on the letter, which i am but as i've absolutely no idea what it relates to i don't want to contact them.
if it is a bill for council tax from a previous address (6 years ago) then i'd like to sort it out as i believe it must be a mistake. can't think it could be anything to do with parking. however i do not wish to contact this co in case they harass me.
should i contact previous council and would they still have any info available? would this rossendales have all details of the debt so i could sort it out?

i contacted the previous council and i have nothing outstanding with them. can anyone advise what else this company deal with? if it is to do with any fees/fines with a car i used to own what would they be?
i've no idea if i've ever had a speeding ticket or parking ticket and if so are these liable to prosecution or bailiffs?
i'm loathe to contact them but if i have to, whats the best way to deal with them? any advice would be very welcome. thanks0 -
You'll need to contact them to find out what they are trying to collect on.
I would do this in writing. Have they given a reference number for the account? Something like this prove it letter - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=11570893&postcount=2
You could also try checking your credit file to see if there is anything on there (correct or incorrect) which might relate to this (they do deal with collection of consumer credit debts as well public sector type debts)A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
rossendales wear 2 hats debt collectors and bailiffs
they also try to collect on unpaid private parking tickets i suspect in this case they are working as debt collectors and are on a fishing trip
if they were collecting an unpaid(local authority ) parking fine you would have had a visit from them by now
however just to be on the safe side if you own a car i would phone your local authority and find out of you have an outstanding parking ticket
It wont be a speeding ticket as rossendales don't collect unpaid magistrate court finesI am not an expert I am self taught i have no legal training any information I post is based on my own personal experience and information gained from other web sites
If you are in any doubt please seek legal/expert advice help0 -

Good idea to contact your local authority but they will only have details of parking tickets that they have issued - if you have had one issued outside your area (neighbouring authority or maybe somewhere you've been on holiday to) then your own authority won't have this. May be better to contact Rossendales for more information.0 -
If you do contact them, do not sign anything, acknowledge anything or accept responsibility for anything. If you call them, make sure you withhold your number. If they tell you you owe money, politely inform them that you acknowledge no debts to their company, and they need to contact you in writing with proof of the alleged debts.
Then come back here and we'll have a look at it for youSome days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

hi, thanks for all your replies. i haven't contacted them yet but received another letter from them today and they advise as i have failed to respond to their previous letter then it may result in further action being taken.
it appears the debt came from an arrow global ltd who i've never heard of. i presume they have also bought this debt. the sum is 614.34.
a few years ago i had to go bankrupt (sequestration in scotland) and i thought all my debts were cleared. should i just send this to the accountant in br or tell rossendales my br details?
what can this company do to me? i really don't want to contact them at all but the thought of them coming to my door is worse.
thanks for advice.0
