I went into a JJB in london - asked for one of those stand up speak up wristbands- the reply i got was "sorry, all our stocks have been exhausted long ago, we should be getting more next week" -
I saw 3 big boxes of them behind the counter (each box holds 100 bands) and I asked whether I could have one from those - and the man says 'erm...well those are for us - i hear that you can get one from ebay for about a tenner though...'

it seems the staff are buying them out for themselves.. grrr

    I suggest a nike outlet

I'm intrigued - what on earth is an 'anti racism wristband'??

Sounds like something that is TOTALLY not required!!

& could easily create the wrong impression of someone without one - unless I'm jumping to the wrong conclusion.

absolutely. This should be a BIG complaint. something smells a bit rotten here?

You should state that they told you to look on ebay aswell, they could well have been holding stock back to sell themselves. If they really are fetching that kind of mark up on ebay then this could be likely, especially since they refused you a purchase, stated that they were for them and then advised looking on ebay...
Demand an explanation, kick up a fuss and you might get a little royal treatment in way of vouchers etc.
  • by the way, I was in NIKETOWN on oxford st last friday and they were selling these £1.50.
  • To be honest, if I was on there wages i.e. £5.00 an hour, I'd probably hold 100 back to purchase them for £150 and sell them on eBay.

They shouldn't be doing it though; and after the above post I'm pretty sure thats what they are doing.

Telling the JJB head office that they mentioned 'eBay' could get them into some trouble.. and like the above mentioned, maybe some 'royal treatment' for you.. hehe

Take a look at the Nike website for where to buy the wristbands

    http://www.nike.com/standupspeakup/en/get_involved.jsp?page=getinvolved

When you first enter the site it says

    WRISTBANDS

DUE TO UNPRECEDENTED DEMAND, THE INITIAL STOCK OF WRISTBANDS HAS SOLD OUT IN MANY PLACES. NIKE IS WORKING HARD TO ADDRESS THIS AND WE EXPECT TO DELIVER MORE WRISTBANDS IMMINENTLY. PLEASE BE PATIENT AND CONTINUE TO CHECK WITH RETAILERS.

What an absolute waste of time, money and materials!
Nike and companies like them make a fortune and "loads of mugs" go and buy them. If you really want to make a difference just donate the cash to charity and stop creating more rubbish to litter the world!
