Hi all, have signed up to the more than milk site today, just wondering if anyone has tried the mixed salad, fruit and veg boxes? I've ordered one this week as a one off to try them out for £11.99. I am really getting sick to death of shopping with Mr. T and I'm figuring with a veg box, milk, and bread delivered by the milkman, I could get my cheese, eggs and meat from the local butchers round the corner, the quality is fab, always tastes gorgeous. I could then get my toiletries, cleaning stuff, baby wipes etc from poundland or if I have to use Mr. T for value stuff which is prob cheaper than poundland just once a month to do an online shop for these things, I reckon I could save some extra pennies.
Have entered my code for my free ten pounds worth this month

I get my cat and dog food wherever it's on offer.
Be really interested to see if anyone has had one of these veg boxes for a rough idea of what to expect, the site says produce may vary seasonally. We all love our veg and it would get eaten, just wonder how cost effective they are compared to supermarket fruit and veg etc. TBH I'm expecting a fair amount for the price, just hope I won't be dissappointed with it.
Thanks
Em xx

I had a weekly one for a few months a couple of years ago. I found it very basic and got bored with it after a while. It always had large amounts of potatoes, carrots, onions, oranges, apples and bananas, and then might have a few mushrooms, aubergine, cauli or whatever in season. Not a patch on a local organics farm one I had had previously before I moved house, which always had a selection of really unusual fruit and veggies.0

Unfortunately they do not deliver to my area. I was hoping to take advantage of their recent offer of £10 free groceries (i think it was).Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

I have had one, it was the Fruit, Salad and Veg one, that was £11.99. I added the items that I recieved up on the asda website and it came to a few pence under £10 so I thought it was good value as obviously it was delivered to my doorstep. However the quality of the veg isn't what I would have chosen myself, the apples were slightly soft and the iceberg lettuce was brown. This obvioulsy could have been a one off though.

I had the exact same box using a "£10 first order" voucher - I found that all things in the box were really good quality, especially the apples and the carrots - problem was we ate it all far too quickly!0

oooooh thanks for sharing
managed to find an older reply/post last night and someone said that their's had come to around that much with Asda too
so it is good value when you put the delivery cost into it!
Having mine delivered on Saturday, can't wait
My Dad was a milkman for 30 years, he left to become a school caretaker in the mid nineties, as the Dairy (Co-op) were selling off the rounds as franchises and at the time the popularity of milkmen was dwindling (cheaper at the shops) and my dad couldn't take the risk
Nice to know milkmen are starting to become popular again
Had my first delivery this morning and it was ready and waiting on the doorstep when I got up at 7.00! great stuff! xx

I had mine delivered Friday and I've just contacted them to say I won't be paying for it. Utterly vile, out of date, rubbish...
Contents were
4 x utterly dessicated split Oranges (straight in the bin)
1Kg of very soft brown onions
1 Cabbage (not tried yet)
Bananas(already brown and weeping)
6 Red apples (soft and bruised)
iceburg lettuce (i shudder to think)
box of cherry tomatoes (untried)
1kg of carrots (untried)
1 cucumber
and that was it!!
Sticking to Saturday morning greengrocer in town market. Not-so-cheap and very, very nasty. I should have expected it from a big company. I have learned my lesson. Thinking of cancelling everything now, even the milk. So annoyed..it's not the council's fault your band is wrong, blame the Valuation Office !!!!! :rolleyes:0 -
It's certainly convenient having fruit and veg delivered, and if it means that you avoid temptation of other things in a supermarket, then it's saving money and definitely worth looking into.
However, if you are lucky enough to have a local greengrocer that will also deliver, it's likely to be cheaper still.
Looking at Hodgster's post below; if this was £11.99, it does seem quite expensive for what they got.
My local greengrocer is about a ten minute walk away and because I'm fairly close-by, they don't charge me anything for delivery.
I started going in there regularly and picking what I wanted, then getting them to drop it off for me later that day; but now, I don't even need to leave the house. I ring them with my order and they drop it off for me; which is great, because it means I can get on with household jobs at home rather than have to go down there because I've run out of carrots or such like.
I usually get quite a big order, because it means that I have plenty in for a week or more; plus it makes the delivery worth while for them.
Last Friday I spent about £18.80 on fruit and veg, so about £6.80 more than Hodgester did for theirs; but for that, I got:
16 brown onions
8 red onions
3 x cauliflowers
1 large white cabbage (over a kilogramme in weight)
2 kilogrammes of large carrots
2 medium courgettes
1 large leek
2 kilogrammes of bananas
2 bunches of spring onions
10 good sized tomatoes
6oz closed cup mushrooms
4 big baking apples (bramley)
4 large red chillies
4 large green chillies
1 x bag of spinach
As you can see, I got quite a bit more for my extra £6.80, so if you do have a local greengrocer, it's certainly worth asking if they'll deliver and even if they do charge a small delivery fee, it's still likely to be worth while:)Contents were

Thanks for the replies everyone. Well I had my veg box delivered and was a bit disappointed tbh
It contained
6 red apples - had to throw two away that were split
4 oranges
about 6 bananas
a small pack of cherry tomatoes
1 ice berg lettuce
a cucumber
a bag of red onions
a pack of carrots
and a small cabbage
Won't be ordering one off the milkman again, but will continue getting my milk and bread from him.
