    Or you can go walk directly to National Gallery in Chambers Street, it's free and it's huge. Get the lift right to the top for stunning views of Edinburgh.

    That's the National Museum of Scotland. The views from the top are superb though.

    Thanks for the tips everyone. It seems there are a few options which is good news.

    I'll probably just see how the muse takes us - if I'm half asleep the car boot at the Omni could be just the ticket. If I've picked up The Observer in the airport we could find ourselves in the National Museum Of Scotland ;)
