Hi,
I have some chesnuts that I don't know what to do with. I know you can have roasted chesnuts but is it just a case of putting them in the oven - in their shells?
Any ideas gratefully received coz am on tight budget this week and every scrap of food counts!!
Thx Luv Jxxx

If you have a microwave you can do them in there, put a slit in the shell and nuke on full power for about 2 mins (for about a dozen nuts)0

You can also cook them in an ordinary oven, but do slit the skins first as the previous poster advises, 20-30 mins at about 180 degrees C (not an exact science) but keep an eye on them, turn them over half way through, exact time depends on your individual oven:) or if you have an open fire, roast them on that. I have a 'special' pan for this, that I was given for Christmas one year, with holes in. It came from a charity catalogue and was a present from one of my daughters who was a student at the time, so could not have been terribly expernsive. But I think you could use any old pan. Main thing is to remember to slit the skins so they don't explode0

You can also boil chestnuts (they make a scrummy soup!). Slit and boil for about 15 - 20mins.
You could then shell them and puree them
