Mackenzie Hall & SAR

Options
I am writing to Mackenzie Hall for a SAR (subject access request) of all details regarding a debt.

Also enclosing £10.00 for this - I understand this is the max they can charge.

It is honestly worth it with regards to the reputation MH have, am I just kissing goodbye to a tenner and will still not gain any proof of the debt?

I am only doing an SAR to ascertain 'IF' they have any proof of a debt or just send it and see what happens?

Is it correct that - No proof equals they cannot take it further, ie courts to obtain ccj / baillifs.

Thanks

  • I have just received a Failure to Respond Notice from Mackenzie Hall, whoever they are! They say I owe £4997.59 from a former address to someone named Cattles!! They also say they have sent me previous correspondence, which is a load of rubbish. I have just emailed them to say I have never ever borrowed or run up a debt of £4,997.59 from anyone called Cattles! Unless they can furnish me with dates and a signed credit agreement etc I've told them I will just ignore any more letters from them. Who are these people??? I've lived at my present address for 4 years and they have not sent me any letters before. Can anyone tell me who they are please?

From what experience I had of MH they are a debt collection company that chase very old debts, they aren't particularly pleasant.
  • Thanks inca1000. Then surely, if they chase very old debts, most of them will be statute-barred won't they? No, they don't seem to be very nice. I'm just going to wait and see now if they reply to my email. x

Exactly, unfortunately my husband paid a small amount towards one of the debts they were chasing in a panic (he has learning difficulties and they threatened all sorts on the phone) and this re-started the 6 year time scale for statute barred. Never mind, we have asked for proof of the debt and SAR and guess what - we haven't heard anything for a while off them. I am sure we will hear again from them soon though.
