  • I've had a look at the governent food safety info and it doesn't give any hints at all about this. I've had a good search round on the net too and no joy there either. I've never eaten duck so no idea there.

    Anyone?!

Did it smell, or was slimey before you cooked it?

I mean by smell- you know when meats gone- it has a nasty sweet/sour smell that can't be mistaken for anything else.

If it was okay then its probably fine- (unless it has a nasty smell when its cooked, but to be fair, it would have a nasty smell whilst cooking.....)

  • Hi, Lola! If it smells OK, it probably is! Poultry smells rank and feels slimy when it's off.

Those marks are likely where it's been inexpertly plucked - they're small spots of blood where a feather was.

DH and DS are off trying to catch duck atm, so I'm hoping for duck for supper this week.

    Thanks to you all

Smelt ok before I stuck it in the oven, and smells ok now. Have cooked it before but not for a while. I just can't remember it having the brown marks on it last time

LOL I'll post back tomorrow with any adverse reactions once we've digested it. :D

  • The brown marks on the skin are normal, don't worry.

Thought I'd let you all know we suffered no adverse reactions :D so it obviously was just marks due to an inexperienced duck plucker :D:D

Can't say I particularly enjoyed eating it, think I'd worried too much about it, but at least I know for another time not to worry quite sooooo much :o
