Case in point - my Grandparents washing machine lasted about 30 years, however in today's money it cost them around £1000!
You can of course still buy a washing machine for £1000 (Miele), and it will probably last you about 30 years, but consumers these days seem to much prefer buying something for £200 from Comet.

Its cos we havent got money like £1000 to spend on a washing machine lol, its where im greatful i'm spending the 3.99 on an insurance policy i've had them out about 4 times in a year! no co-incidence that the machine is now about 5 years old!There's a very good reason for this - price.
