Lidl kitchen scales (digital, glass)

This offer has just finished, and I bought one of the last black glass ones (the smartest, IMO) last week. It looks lovely, and can measure from 1 gram to 5kg, which is quite impressive, although the lb/oz conversion only displays to the nearest ounce, so perhaps that was an afterthought (our old Salter one displays to 1/8 ounce)

The big problem, though, it that puts itself on standby after 60 seconds, even when weighing, making it very difficult to use when assembling a recipe, as you have less than a minute to prepare each item!

According to the manual, this should only happen when the scales are empty (which is how it should be) and I wonder if anyone here has experience either way?

I know I can get my £7.99 back, but it would be nicer to have them work properly!
