Credit rating Improvement???

Options
Hi all
I have just had a good look at my Experian Credit Report and can see that 5 accounts which were settled years ago are coming to the end of their 6 years within the next week. I currently have a poor score due to 4 defaults which I gained as a silly, irresponsible spender a few years back. I have made all payments on time over the past 18 months and my score is slowly improving because of this. Does anyone know if the removal of these 5 records is likely to help my score improve? I currently have 34 accounts on my record (90% of them are settled and have been for some time!) - so the removal of these will take it down to 29 - I then have another 5 due to be removed by the end of this year. Am just trying to find about about ways in whcih my credit file will improve.
Any advice/help gratefully received!
Claire
