I think any company this happened to would be seriously displeased. They'll have gone through a recruitment process, sifted applications, interviewed, made an offer and had it accepted only for the candidate to withdraw before starting, meaning they'll have to start all over again, at considerable expense. If that person's CV landed on my desk again it would be straight in the bin.
A sensible employer has a number two and three on their list so hardly any extra cost.0
