Debt-free but still "frugal!"

  • What a great idea, Danothy!

Just another thought - what does your newly less frugal life look like in your head? Eating out once a week? New clothes for the kids every six months? A posh cut and blow dry every six weeks? An annual holiday in the sun?

See that's the trouble in a nutshell I think . . I don't know!?! Just so fixated on minimising outgoings and maximising income that I didn't think past debt-free day.

Obviously I feel a great weight lifted off my shoulders and the resultant peace of mind that it brings, but . .

So immersed in the MSE way of life that anything more seems greedy and unnecessary almost, if that makes sense?

(Although an annual holiday in the sun instead of a long weekend on a Scottish caravan site (which was fun in itself!) might be a good target to aim for!)

    Thanks - food for thought.

    Hi,
    What are you saving 'for'?

What do you value in life? What is more important than money?

(eg is it happy memories of doing things together as a family? Or education? or future weddings for your daughters? or being able to do activities you like in retirement? or good food, good wine and dancing? or being able to give to charities and buying goats in africa? etc...)

How can you use your money to get you those things?

  • I think I am saving for saving's sake - just because I can for pretty much the first time in my adult life!

But yes; family, family memories and my children's education are all extremely important to me.

Time for a wee appraisal of my new situation I think!

  • Just realized that I was responding to this while re-using a teabag, hand crocheting a wedding present and watching TV on Iplayer, having taken a break to call my mum in America on skype rather than by phone :) so much for my life of debt free debauchery!
