:mad:35 months ago i voluntarily went bankrupt,it went through with no problems and i was discharged exactly 1 year later.
since that time i have been debt free and everything is paid up on time but was still unable to get even the basic of credit, deciding in january to check my credit file (through credit expert:A ) for myself i was able to find that some of my creditors welcome finance (the reason i went bankrupt in the 1st place) in particular, had not updated my file and marked my accounts as settled, and the 1 they did settle they then passed on to a debt collector 2mnths later for collection!!
yesterday welcome did finally update it,(after alot of chasing and pushy constant phone calls)and by this morning my credit score has doubled!!:T
surely there must be something i can do about the fact that due to their failure to update my file i have had a very poor credit file rating and score, basically they have blackened my name for the last 2 yrs, surely if i had blackened there name for 2yrs i would of been prosecuted for slander!!
can anybody help or had the same problem????

It may be worth checking on the bankruptcy board exactly what creditors are required to do with regards your credit file.
If they are required to update the accounts as settled, then their not doing so could be reported to the ICO for processing incorrect data and possibly also to the OFT. I would write an official letter of complaint explaining what you require them to do to rectify the situation and state that you expect a response from them detailing what actions they wll take as well as when. If they do not do so, inform them you will be reporting them to the regulators; and if possible quote any legislation that backs up your position.
I don't know anything about bankruptcy but i wouldn't be surprised if they don't follow too closely the rules they are supposed to adhere to.After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0
Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/20110 -
I have been in a similar situation whereby a company who agreed to write off a debt which wasn't due have not updated my file for over a year. I am still in dispute about this, but will get it sorted eventually.
At the time you could have gone to the ICO (information commisioners office) about it as they deal with data protection disputes who could have taken action against the company.
The long and short of it really is no you cannot do anything about it unless you have some sort of proof you have lost out financially ie a letter from a company offering you credit at a higher apr because of the credit information held against you by that company. You could have then claimed the difference from welcome financeEven a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.0
