I want to buy the WORCS GREENSTAR JUNIOR 28I COND COMBI NG for £828 from a specialised website that says they are cheapest on the net. This description of it is impressive energy saving wise. However it does not give any information about its capability i.e. the size of property, room numbers, etc.
I have a 4 bed, 1 bathroom, 9 radiator, mid terraced property, will this boiler be able to efficiently heat this property?
The website has an answering machine for phone enquires, which is not very helpful.

One assumes its a 28Kw boiler, work out the output of your radiators, add up the Kilowatts this should be less than the boiler capacity.

This boiler should be fine for what you want.
Dont forget that you will need to add on for the flue and the programmer. I just bought the 42CDI from Plumbnation and picked it up same day from the local PTS merchant or could have had it delivered next day. Their price on their website for your one is £907 although there are different inbuilt timeclocks you can have so the price differs. Got my flue and programmer from ebay slightly cheaper though.
I think Worcester are the best for hot water output of all the manufacturers and service is brill as well. To maintain the 2 year warranty you will need to have your existing system flushed with chemicals first and then dosed with inhibitor.
You will also need a Gas-safe registered installer to connect the gas and commission it.0 -
Thanks Duane, this is very very useful, and thanks for pointing out about
the flue and the programmer. The heating system will be totally new, as there is no central heating in the property, so hopefully I shall be guaranteed for the two years. I shall research the flue and programmer.
Are they generally the same or are they different for different models.

If you are putting new radiators in, then in the long term it is more economical to oversize the radiators so you can run the boiler at a lower flow temp. Condensing boilers are more efficient this way. The condense happens because you are extracting heat from the flue gasses which would normally be wasted.
Another tip is to oversize the condensate discharge so it doesnt freeze up in the icy weather - run it in upvc not copper as the condensate is acidic.
Worcester do many control options - mechanical or electronic clock and one which adjusts flow temp to outside conditions, wireless or wired room stats. it depends on whether you are a techie or not and how much you want to pay.
You can even get trv's now with an electronic timeclock head so you can programme individual radiators times.0 -
Hi Duane
Thanks for the tip! This is a great tip for saving money.
I have just measured the radiators today and space is quite tight for oversizing the radiators as they have to fit under the windows in between the under the window ledge and above the skirting.
Would savings occur all overall, if I oversized selected heaters where space is available for example the hallway, install a longer horizontal radiator nearly the length of the passage or the bathroom, a longer vertical raditor nearly the length of one side of the wall. I was thinking of installing a towel radiator.
Oversizing the condensate discharge, I am not sure where this is located?
I will have to chek the control options that come with the WORCS GREENSTAR JUNIOR 28I COND COMBI NG, I am amusing that the controls that come with specfic boilers are not upgradeable?

No you would have to keep the oversizing in the same ratio for all the radiators really. Dont forget that radiators of the same physical size can have different outputs whether they are single or double panel and whether they have fins or not. The lower temps that you can have with condensing boilers makes them ideal when paired with underfloor heating - not an option for you though really.
The condensate connection on the boiler is 20mmdia and water will run from this to the nearest drain when the boiler is in condensing mode. The more efficient, the more the water flow. When you have the flue installed it needs to slope down to avoid condensate running back into the boiler.
Most of the controls in the Worcester range are interchangeable. Out of the box the boiler will have a blank plastic panel and this is an easy job to take off and replace it with whatever Worcester controller you choose - they just plug in. Or you could just use any external timer with the boiler. You can always pm me for more advice.0 -
Thanks Duane
I have just PMd you.
