:DOk I am a long way from being debt free however I feel I am making inroads. I changed my life insurance from £129 a month  (decision made under pressure from financial advisor) to £49 a month, and pet insurance from £21 a month to £7.40.
I have been incredibly naive about money and am just realising how much it takes over your life. I am constantly thinking about money and how to save. I feel guilty if I spend any and angry if any is spent unnecessarily by me or my DH (mainly him on cigs and beer) Its a constant argument about that!!
Anyway I am going to be on here a lot more to ask advice, but as a lurker I have already seen that this is an incredibly supportive site and I can't wait to get to know everyone better

hi
I was just like you, I always seemed to take/ renew insurances etc without checking if I could get it cheaper elswhere. since using this site I have reduced car insurance by £600 per year:T Taken advice on my huge gas bills and had a rebate of £430:beer: aim to make further savings when other renewals come up. Also went on the grocery challenge and am aiming to reduce my monthly bills on that by at least £100 pr month but I think this will be a gradual thing. And have also joined the sealed pot challenge for loose change. Like you I am constantly questioning and moaning if I have to spend money at the moment and am becoming addicted to scouring the forums for more money saving tips. How long will it last I wonder;)Sealed Pot Challenge 2011 / no. 1205 £110 made]Sealed Pot Challenge 2012/no 1205 target £300Jan g/c 355.83/£450

That's a great start Claire, well done! :T:T
Why not allow yourself and DH a small amount in your budget to spend on what you want so you don't get fed up and have a splurge in a few months time. It doesn't have to be a lot, but a little treat can make all the difference."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". I am not as far ahead as you HD as have only woken up to things today. I think I need to review every penny and see where I can save money. Well done though.0 -
