  • Once I received the reply refusing the card, I realised it was an MBNA card. I have now only one MBNA card and thats the one where the 1.9% runs out in March with the main bulk of the balance.

    I am trying to be more positive and I am quite single minded when I want to achieve something. I know it will be a long hard slog!!!!!
    Its just knowing where to go next. But I have 2 calls to make one to Mint and one to MBNA, after that then Im stuck!!

    I sort most of it out, my husband just buries his head in the sand and is happy for me to sort it but I cannot sleep at night worrying and I need to know the best way to go about it all.

    If your husband is still using credit cards (and other credit facilities) then this could place an impossible strain on your marriage. It doesn't matter how responsible you are if he is ignoring the situation.

    When I was in marriage guidance the counsellor suggested we needed debt counselling, I dismissed this out of hand (as this would have meant accepting failure on two fronts at the same time). Had we followed her advice it may not have saved our marriage but it most certainly would have made the separation less traumatic.
  • Hey Boxer,

    Incase you did not know you can transfer cred it limits between mbna cards. So if you opened a new mbna card and it only gave you a small limit, you can ring them up and say I'd like to transfer my limit on x card over to my new card. If you do not want to shut the old ac you can leave a 100 limit on there. HTH.

    One way is "User CP" (look up the page), then "Edit signature" where you can remove it and put your own if you want.
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........
  • Thanks Fran, easy when you know how
  • Hello
    Just to say thank you to all who helped me at the time, its been a long road but our cicumstances have change dramatically!! We now work for ourselves running a busy pub. Hard work but our main priority has been to pay off our debts. I can say it has not been easy but we have paid off one card completely, just one to go that is on 9 months interest free and we are going to make a concerted effort to pay that one now. MY lesson learnt is NO more cards!!!! If I havent got the money for something we go without til we have (or interest free credit and make sure we pay it off) Also using the tips from this web site. I am looking at a better mortgage deal in July, when we have no redemption to pay, again thanks.
  • Hi boxercrasy,

    I'm fairly new to this site (although have been a bit of a lurker!) and I just wanted to say that's fantastic - its so pleasing to think people can actually overcome debt and become debt free and follow their dreams - gives the rest of us hope.

    I haven't been following your story as I'm quite new, but I'm so happy for you and your husband.

    I hope your ankle is better?

    SS x
    MBNA = £4,000 / Next = £925 (approx. tbc on 19/8)
    Tesco = £2,910.11 / Smile overdraft = £500
    Bank of Scotland = £2,782.83
  • Good to see such success! Congrats on getting your pub, congrats on being nearly debt free! It's nice to read an inspirational story every once in a while!

  • Hi boxercrazy. I too am new to this site and have spent a lot of time reading threads. Well done to you, you are an inspiration and made me feel better. I have a partner who lets me shoulder the whole responsibility which in itself can be a strain. Thats why I have come on this site, so i don't feel quite so alone.

    Congrats and good luck in the pub trade.!
