It is far less messy too - you just rinse it all out after cooking. I have a Tefal Vitamin plus three tier steamer which I got on Amazon for half price and I love it. I also steam puddings in it sometimes and also chicken fillets, but I haven't done fish because I am afraid that it might make it smelly, being plastic and I think I mightn't get the smell out.
I have the same steamer, and I have done everything in it. Even salmon fillets. I did a 3 course meal for DH & me for our last anniversary, where the main was steamed salmon with baby veg and baby new potatoes. The salmon never left a smell on any of the baskets, so I've never had a problem with that. And I've even done curry, pilau rice, garlic salmon and lots of other foods that would normally leave a smell on other plastics, but I think the plastic in a steamer is too solid to absorb any odours from foods, unlike the softer more porous type containers you get for storing foods.0 -
Hello - We've just bought a rice cooker. I was wondering if its possible to cook anything else in it? I would love to do a rice pud?? The leaflet that came with it is very short & only suggests rice which is I souppose fair enough!!
Thank you0 -
Hi mouseymousey,
We have an older thread on this that might help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

I have a Tefal rice cooker/steamer/slowwcooker. Steamer section is too small to be of use but the setting allows me to fry and boil. I've made macarini cheese and biriani i it. I recently made some overnight porridge by setting it on Warm - didn't use milk though, only water.NSD 0/150
