Free DVD? - Screen Select (registration)

http://www.screenselect.co.uk/pp/ is the offer, which is in conjunction with Perfect Pizza - it came on a flyer through the door. You can choose between Spiderman, About a Boy, Bridget Jones' Diary, Bend it like Beckham or Bad Boys if you register for a 14-day free trial of DVD rental by post - credit card details needed. It says you can cancel any time within the 14 days and you don't have to order any rented DVDs, which is a good idea since if they claim they don't receive them back after you cancel your subscription, they will charge £1 a day per DVD.

Warning - and this is why I put the question mark - apparently they have been a little reticent to send the freebies out, according to a rumour I heard about them being covered by London free morning paper Metro. Has anyone seen this? I cancelled my sub after about 12 days and am still awaiting my DVD, although it says it will take up to 30 days. I've saved the website pages and I'll start to kick up a rumpus after that time!

  • I used ScreenSelect last year for a free trial. It was in conjunction with Zoo magaine for a free Spiderman DVD. I cancelled the subscription before the trial ended and a week or two later I got the DVD as promised.

I also then tried to join Tesco free trial and apparently because they use ScreenSelect as their provider...you guessed it...my application got denied :-(

Thanks for that - looks like I should get the DVD then! I guess one is better than none.

I started a trial in early December after an ad in the Sunday Times. I am still waiting for my free DVD now and have just sent them an email asking why they feel it is OK to breach the terms of their contract. I will update this when (if) I get a response.

Amazing - I was just thinking of posting about this. A couple of days ago I also emailed them - they "aim" to reply within one business day. They used to have a helpline number (which sounded like it connected to the US) but they say this is temp. unavailable. I wish I had noted down that number.

Anyone else? The more the better.

They never bothered to reply to me - so I just emailed the Sunday Times to see why they do business with such dodgy companies! - I cc'd screenselect to see if that will kick them into action .

The answer (for me at least - but no thanks to ScreenSelect) is in the small print: you have to build up a wish list (of at least 10 titles!) as part of the requirements to receive a free DVD. This means you start receiving discs, which then means that you can get easily caught by them claiming not to have received them back after you cancel, for which they will charge £1 a day per disc. Bearing in mind that you cannot control when the discs start to arrive, I wasn't prepared to fall into that trap, thank you very much.

I just signed up to a two week free trial of ScreenSelect last night through Greasypalm. Does anyone know how many dvds I am entitled to receive over the two weeks?

Well I was surprised to find that my free DVD arrived yesterday after all - though well after the 30 days they said it would take. I have a feeling that they added the condition that you must build up a wish list after I joined them - otherwise they could just have responded to one of my emails pointing out the condition.
