HM Pizza for 20? Help!

It's my daughter's birthday on Monday and she wanted Domino's pizza for dinner

I do pizza for us on a regular basis in rectangular oven trays and it's pretty good. There are 7 of us and I make 2 trays. Would 4 be enough for 20 with some other bits and bobs for a tea time buffet?

Also, can I make the bases earlier in the day? Never done that before.

  • Dominos is tasty. On Tuesdays they have BOGOF or sometimes they do BOGOF if you collect

Even at BOGOF prices Dominos for 20 would still be a fortune.

With bits and bobs it will be fine. I make my own hm pizza as well. I have started batch cooking it. Make enough dough for 3, make up into pizzas, add toppings, cook 1, freeze 2 in greaseproof paper. I haven't noticed a different in taste. I can throw it in the oven from frozen on a day when I don't have much time. Or you could make the dough, shape, top and rest in fridge to cook later as that would delay the yeast. I have done that as well. Hope she enjoys her birthday! HTH

Re: price. Pizza is really cheap to make and crazy money to buy.

Yes, and her birthday's Monday ;)
  • You can make the bases then freeze them Mozzarella and grated cheese freeze well too, so if you wanted to to you could actually have the tomato/cheese topping done then add the other bits when you take them out of the freezer and just pop in the oven - after all that is what you would do with frozen pizza
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

You can keep pizza base in the fridge for up to three days - the taste will improve.

People always eat more slices of pizza than you think - I'd make sure you have plenty of cake and bits and bobs to go with 4 trays.

  • Depending on what I've got on I make pizza bases days in advance.

I've found the easiest way is to put a bit of foil between each base, lightly floured on both sides and stack them up on a plate and put in the fridge.

Make sure there's plenty of room because they can continue to grow!

Sometimes, I've rolled them together like this and freezed them and they have been fine after defrosting.

Four pizzas does sound a bit tight. I'd be tempted to eek out the dough to five.....

    Have fun. Twenty. Yikes....

You could make some HM potato wedges and dough balls to go with the pizzas too. With the wedges so you could take them out of the oven and then put the pizzas in. The wedges will stil be hotter than the sun.

We make pizza bases and then freeze in cling film. We then add frozen toppings such as onion, peppers, mushrooms, peperoni etc. Top with slices of mozarella cheese and sprinkling of grated parmesan. I did something similar for family last year and it worked out fine. We also did dough balls with garlic butter and salads and just kept chucking pizzas in and serving straight from oven.
We also use either passata or BBQ sauce to add variety.
