I would ring them rather than write to them personally. It gives you more scope to explain your situation & saves time.

This might sound strange but I have issues about using the telephone.

Normally the advice on here is to put everything in writing - that way you have proof - send it recorded and also they can't bully you into agreeing anything other than what is helpful to you. If it is short temp and you haven't missed payments I am sure they will help. However, you say you haven't missed payments but your credit file is not good - don't understand that one, but good luck and hope that in 4 weeks you will be straight again. Billie

does this letter sound ok?
I am writing to ask if it would be possible to take a repayment holiday on our loan repayments as due to unforeseen circumstances we cannot afford to make this month’s loan payment due to a shortfall in income.

I unexpectedly lost my job this week, although I do have a new job starting in the next 4 weeks as soon as my CRB check is through.

I would be grateful if you could consider this measure for a temporary problem. If it is not acceptable I would be grateful if you could contact me at the above address to inform me of any alternatives.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Give them a call instead if you can face it - if they have any further questions (or you do) it might be easier to sort out in one go. If you do write instead - as advised above post everything recorded
• Credit record is more damaged by amount of debt. We have missed some credit card payments and catalogue payments over the years but not on loans in question. (had loans almost 4 years) I have been reading Lloyds website. They seem pretty good for repayment hols, hopefully others will be the same
