Has anyone used BSY for home learning?

Hiya
I've been looking for some courses on Beauty Therapy and have found one on the BSY website. I don't want to pay all that money for something that isn't worth it. I've seen some mixed reviews elsewhere on the web but wasn't sure if anyone had any thoughts on BSY? Has anyone used them and then had the relevant qualification for running their own business etc? I would like to make sure it's a legit qualification at the end. I work two jobs so can't really make time to go to college so doing this in my own time would be ideal!
Thoughts or opinions please!!!

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. It says they are accredited by the Beauty Guild, but then who are they? Something just doesn't look right.
Have you checked out this page about Beauty Therapists, it gives accredited courses and some useful links.

Go to college. Beauty thereapy is a course that requires hands on experience and really ought to be done in a college and class environment and would get you NVQ/BTEC which IS recognised.
Put it this way, would you do a course from a college that also did a course in Wicca? (Wicca, for those who don't know is a 60 yr old religion invented by Gerald Gardner based on witchcraft and can only be taught in a coven environment and then only when someone is accepted by a coven and it can take years to get from neophyte to priest/ess. No I am not Wiccan but I do know many lineaged Wiccans who really despair at these courses.)0 -
I don't see how you could possibly learn this by distance learning, these are practical skills as well as a lot of theory. A friend did this for two years at college and yes, you study anatomy and so on that I suppose you could do just from a book, but most of the time is hands-on work.
All you get is one of the colleges own diplomas. Nor really worth the paper they are printed on, you need proper NVQs or similar for a real qualification. We do training courses for our clients (nothing to do with beauty) and we issue them with a certificate of attendance, nice for them to have, something to stick in a frame if they really want, but we don't pretend they are professional qualifications or accreditations in any way. Anyone and his dog can issue meaningless certificates.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
