Wisdom teeth removal as preventative measure?

  • I had one out after pain (top) and the other top one has effectively yaken the place of my back molar which was decayed (I have terrible teeth:o) closing up the gap over a couple of years. One bottom one has just come through, yes it hurt but cutting teeth does! I suspect the back molar there will need removing too at some point so hope the wisdom tooth will be okay. i wouldn't have them out 'just in case' as its sooo painful!

I was 36 when I had my wisdom teeth removed. Top and bottom right hand side. I was having awful problems with bottom one and the dentist removed the top one at the same time. I was surprised at my age, always thought it happened when you are younger. Having gone through the operation which had to be under a general and having some bone removed, I would leave well alone as in my case it was not a nice experience, the after effects were pretty grim and I wouldn't even consider going through it 'just in case'. If I were you I would leave well alone. But it is your decision at the end of the day.

Thanks for your advice. :) It sounds pretty awful. :(

Thanks for your help. :) I work full-time too and don't get much holiday – I doubt work would be too keen for me to take sick time for something I don't definitely need doing!

Yes, I needed sick time - I was actually waking up during the night sobbing in pain:(
