credit card cheques

I seem to remember being told these were not good value but cant find out where it was. Any help please

    They are not good value as you often have to pay a handling fee and sometimes perhaps pay a higher interest rate than your usual credit card balance.

    It will vary with the card, so your best bet is to dust off your terms and conditions and have a read! (or call your cc company to confirm what you will be charged for writing one).

    Usually credit card cheques are considered the same as a cash advance, so attract the same handling fees and higher interest charges (eg RBS offered 2.5% handling charge + 24.9%apr interest).

    If they are considered a balance transfer they are generally better value, but can still have handling fees attached and no interest free period.

    Unlike normal credit card transactions they also do not offer any protection under the consumer credit act.
