Can anyone recommend a free family tree software for my pc ? Im trying to build my family tree and i can go back to the 1600's but at the mo' all the files, pics and doc's ive got are just stored in "my documents" and id like to have them all in one place, id also like to be able to email the tree to my cousins as a few of them are into genealogy too and we'd like to be able to share our info. Thanks xx

AddiI am using Family Tree Maker (Ancestry.co.uk) and find it easy to use with plenty of useful content. Previously I used Who Do You Think You Are but found the Ancestry software superior.
Family Tree Maker 2011 Deluxe can be bought from Amazon at £19.99.

(You may find it more helpful to read the reviews for the 2010 edition as reviews for the 2011 seem to dwell on the fact that there is not much more content included than previoulsy.)
This includes a free 3 month essential membership to Ancestry, card details are taken but it is not a problem to cancel at the end of this period or indeed to pay for further membership. It sounds as if you may not need this if you have got back as far as the 1600s but it would be of help to others just starting research or wanting to expand the information they already have.
If you are a member of Ancestry it is possible to upload a tree and invite family members to view it. Also a leaf emblem will show if Ancestry has hints concerning your ancestors but you will be unable to access this if you are not a member.
Hope you find this helpful.
Just realised you were asking for free software, duh. I also use genes reunited but it is limited as to what you can put on it, although the hot matches are good as you can tie in with other members who have an ancestor in common. I would still stand by my recommendation though.0 -

Although it is still not 'free', you can get the Ancestry family tree maker software using Tesco clubcard points if you have any - no cash outlay involved.
