Will we get a mortgage?

Options
My partner and I are currently househunting and have our first appointment with a mortgage lender tomorrow afternoon.
I lay awake all last night worrying that they wouldnt be able to give us money as I have had bad credit in the past.
About 4 years ago I got divorced and suffered quite a serious breakdown - because of this my finances suffered and I defaulted on a few credit card and store card payments although i never had any court judgments or anything like that.
I finally sorted myself out and since that period have never defaulted on any payments but am worried that period will affect me now.
How long do things like that stay on your file?

They will stay on your file for 6 years, so any lender can see them, different lenders treat them differently, depdendent on overall credit score, which takes into account things like, income, LTV, length of time at address's, jobs, and credit data.

Don't know who you are seeing tomorrow, but would be worth you taking a copy of your credit file so they can see "how bad " things really are.

With "history" you would do better seeing abroker, who could find the best deal from lenders who would likely lend to you, with "history" the chance of you walking into the right high street lender are slim.
