RBS/Natwest 'Alleged' Debt - NO CCA sent as requested.

Hi Folks.
I recently got my credit report from Experian and noticed a default from Natwest (having been chased by Apex Credit Management - to no avail..) for around £360 pound. I sent the prove it letter to Apex as I have no outstanding debt with Natwest as far as I am aware - a loan I had a while back was settled in full. They told me to contact RBS and gave me a contact name and an address.
I sent the prove it letter to them plus a 1 pound post order made payable to them.
Today I got a letter back.....
I need advice with this as I am not sure what to do.
they said:
- For Data Protection we require your signature on all correspondence.
- Further identification required to action my request for a CCA. Please take a passport or driving licence to my local branch for them to fax off and then re-send my letter request for a CCA?
- A valid sort code and account number for my loan account?
They can't ask for this surely!? I am only asking them to prove the debt with an original copy of the signed credit agreement etc.
I don't know what to do. Im wary of providing my signature due to them using it for 'other purposes'. Why am I being put on a spot when it was me who has asked for them to prove the debt? Some advice as to what to do next would be GREATLY appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.
EDIT: I also don't have an account number or sort code for a loan account!?!!? Like I said the only loan I had was settled in full and shows as such on my report so I don't have any account number or sort code..

Did you send a prove it letter or a CCA request letter?
If you don't believe you owe the money or have an outstanding product with them I would have just sent the prove it letter to see what they come back with.
They shouldn't send a CCA out to someone who is saying it is not their debt as that would be in breach of the DPA.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

Tixy thanks for the reply - I sent a request for a CCA to RBS after several prove it letters to the DCA who asked me to contact RBS for a CCA and then they asked for all the above. I don't want to provide all the requests that they have submitted incase they get used in unappropriate ways. I don't know of anything I owe them..
The DCA couldnt prove it - neither could the DCA before that one and I've ended up getting told to go back to the source to ask for a CCA which I have and this is what they have said.
Where do I go from here? Do I do as they request and start putting my signature on, taking id to the bank etc? I really don't know the account number and sort code though as I don't acknowledge the debt!Who are you to judge the life I live? I know I'm not perfect and don't live to be. I think I would write back to RBS stating that you have no knowledge of any debt owed to them so cannot provide a sort-code or account number. Tell them you are disputing an entry they have made on your credit file and you wish them to provide proof that you owe them money and if not to remove the entry on your credit file. You might also say that you are not prepared to go in branch and provide them with your personal documentation because as far as you are aware not debt to them exists.
You could either not sign that letter or you might decide to sign it but in such a way that makes scanning and copying difficult - one technique seems to be to sign on top of a self-drawn water mark of wavy lines or something so that the signature is legible but not possible to copy.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
