    If you want a serious comment re gold v house prices I think that gold is a valid inflation hedge and if your timing is right can be a good investment.

    However the fact that you don't get any income off it whilst you hold it is what puts me off. You could I suppose buy shares in the mining companies but then your open to risks effecting that one company such as a collapse etc.

    I really don't understand why anyone would buy enough gold to buy a house but rent their own home. Surely in doing so you are losing money on rent and still have to get your timing right in the gold market.
