Cccs to self admin advice please

Options
Hi I've been on a dmp with cccs for over a year now and dispite a few hiccups with things not being sent out it's been going ok, but I feel I would like to take more control as I think this would help us with our finances in the future as we have always just ignored things and hoped they would go away and by getting cccs to deal with our financial mess I can't help but think we are not learning anything and just doing the same old head in sand routine. I'd like some advice from anyone who has taken over their dmp from cccs, how you went about it ect.. and some heads up on any problems you had if any from your creditors. Thanks

  • Hi blueye

It depends on how much longer you have left to pay off your debts. If it is a long time, I will say it is not easy, most companies like an annual review of your circumstances (some every 6 months) and creditors like to change DCA companies to see if they can get more money out of you. You will get lots of phone calls and letters which you do not get going through CCCS, it depends if you want this kind of hassle again.

I would speak to CCCS before doing anything.

If you want to go alone alot of the ground work has already been done by CCCS, you will need to write to all of your creditors and say you are taking over management of your DMP, some creditors do not like this. You will have to renegotiate with the creditors and they may what higher payments. You then have to set up how you are going to pay them (standing order or internet banking is the best way).
