my hgv driving driving license is up for renewal and i have to have a medical.
what i would like to know is if i dont have the medical now can i have a medical for this in say 3 years time and have my license reinstated then.
the problem is we are very stretched money wise at the minute and cant afford to pay for a medical that wont be used for a couple of years at least.
i am told by friends that you loose your license forever if you dont take a medical which seems a bit harsh.
i may never drive hgv again but in a couple of years this may be a source of income even if only part time.
any advice please.

I have a feeling that your friends may be right. My OH has this dilemma too, every 5 years! He doesnt drive HGV regularly now but maintains that its worth paying the £30 odd for a medical coz he never knows when he might need it. He said the only option if he misses the medical is to retake which costs hundreds of pounds. £30 now seems a worthwhile investment to me!Experience is the toughest teacher because she gives the test first then the lesson

£35 is cheap for a HGV med, they can cost £70. I'ts worth ringing around, I don't think you have to go to your own doctors, you may find a surgery that will do it cheaper.0
