Invitations...Card Factory?

Hi All,

I've been pondering over invitations. I'm happy to spend more on things that are going to matter on the day - making sure enough wine is served/that the food is tasty etc. But also want to have things that I will remember for years - so spend more on decorations/photographer...

Anyway, I was in the Card Factory yesterday & they have some nice cards in their 7 for £1 section. They have a tree on the front with different coloured leaves (quite pastel colours - which I don't think will be the wedding colours).

These are blank inside so I could do my own insert. Will only need about 35 - so £5 in total...

Is it a really tacky idea? Should I make my own / invest in better quality??

Do you really remember if the invite was nice?? Does it matter to a guest??

What do you think?

I looked into this, and in fact bought some really lovely blank on the inside cards from M&S that were all pretty. anyway, i couldn't decide on the size and colour of insert and i was worried my own printing wouldn't look good etc so i went to vistaprint in the end. I'm keeping the M&S cards for thank you cards as i'll write those out by hand and make them more personal.

I couldn't find any invites i liked on vistaprint to start with as they're all flat, but i found a notecard i liked and fiddled with that instead!

Good luck, i'm sure they'll look lovely whatever you do. x

  • Thanks for the info! You're probably right & it would be too fiddly to do inserts.

I did look on Vistaprint, but couldn't find anything. I also got annoyed reading how everyone had managed to get such cheap deals there & I didn't have any decent offer codes! I'll have to be patient...!

You do indeed have to be patient. register, desing and save the thing you like, leave it a little while and then they'll bombard you with emails with freebies.

As i say, if you look in note cards and other stationery there are some nicer designs.

not a great pic as i've doctored it so much but you get the idea. I paid slightly extra for linen paper, and i'm sure it was worth it.

Yes they've arrived and been sent out! I had to pay a bit for the linen paper and the postage (i left it rather late and had to do the soonest one) but they look lovely and most people have said so. One friend said she liked the John Lewis font which was weird!

  • We spent loads of time and effort making our invitations ourselves to save money. It was definitely worth it because people have said to me that they were the most beautiful invitations they had ever seen!

i made my own invitations, just very simple ones that probably cost me no more than £40-£50 in total. since then i have made more for friends & family because they said they liked mine so much.
  • Thanks everyone! I will sign up to Vistaprint & see what comes along. I don't know if I have the patience to do my own invites, and I'd prefer them to cost more like £20 in total. Will have a nosy on the crafts boards to see if I get inspired though!!!

A friend said that I should aim for making things look as posh as poss for as cheap as poss. Prior to now I've been too focused on the cheap bit!!!
