HMRC reqesting P60

Hi,

Have had a letter this week from the HMRC asking me to send them my P60 to check that I have been paying the right amount of tax while on Incapacity Benefit. Does this letter come out as routine - I never had one last year?

    Yes this is just routine.

Every year if the HMRC has incomplete records then the computer system cannot automatically close the tax year itself (reconcile the tax paid to money earned) so your name will come up on a worklist. An advisor working through the numerous names on the worklist will then send out letters asking for whatever information they need to close the year.
