PayPlan

Options
Hello

Has anyone out there used Payplan i found them on the direct gov website which is a good sign. They manage you debt and write to your creditors to get interest frozen you pay them and they distribute the money like all other sites out there difference is they don't charge you anything. I call and made an appointment but 10mins after call I got a call from different company and I said I was dealing with payplan and they reckon that people aren't happy with payplan and leave I don't understand why people would switch from payplan to a company who charge fees. I've worked out I can pay my debt off a whole year earlier being with payplan than a company that charges. I just want other peoples opinions of Payplan?

A lot of posters here do use Payplan and are happy with them. They are not officially recommended on MSE as they are not a charity. But they will manage DMPs at no cost to the you.
My guess is the company who called you were a fee charging organisation and should not be considered - you'll be paying them fees every month and your first couple of payments will all go to their fees. So you are right - these will keep you in debt much longer whilst you waste money on their fees.

Payplan are okay - some say they give a bit of a hard sell on other products (insurances etc) but you don't have to take these and other people say that Payplan no more than mentioned other products.

Either stick with Payplan - if they are recommending a DMP - or you could go to a charity - IMPORTANT - Where to seek professional impartial advice about your debts. - don't go with a fee charging company.

Really......a company that wants to charge you for what Payplan will do for free thinks Payplan are rubbish?......suprised? really?!

These fee charging companys are businesses that make money from ripping off people in debt, please don't use them. I use Payplan and I have nothing but positive things to say about them, they have dealt with everyone of my requests quickly and seem really knowledgable. They do try to sell you other things such as insurance and break down cover etc, but simply say no and they will leave it. The only thing I took up was the 'cover my life' scheme because I am unable to get life insurance and so it suited me - I didn't take it because they 'forced' me to.

There are also some debt charities that MSE recommends but I can never remember the acronyms for them!

I am with Payplan, and have been since 2005. I can't even remember now how I found them as I was reeling from my ex leaving, but they were wonderful at the time and it was such a relief. I can't fault them; like someone else said they try and sell other insurances now and then, but mostly it's just asking if I'm interested, and when I say no I'm not, they are fine. They annually review your financial situation and a year ago, I had to reduce my payments and they were also very helpful. I may well have gone with someone else if I was looking now, but I am happy and I know I can contact them anytime and they are always supportive.
  • Hi

We have been with Payplan since December 2006, and they have been great for us. I would recommend them to anyone. They do offer insurances etc but they only send the occasional e-mail and just ask if they can help save money at our annual review.

Good luck in what you decide x

    Hi

I just wanted to mention the "extra's" as some people have referred the things we offer in the past. They are all completely optional and the reason why we mention them to you to is to see if they can save you money. We would only mention them to you if we think they are relevant as well.

From my own personal experience I would not use Payplan - I was dealt with by someone who was very unhelpful and gave me a budget that just would not work - they would not allow me any allowance for things like pet insurance - her response was we don't allow that.

I did speak to CCCS, but in the the end I spoke with National Debtline http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/ who gave me amazing advice and support and I set up my own DMP on my own terms using their template letters and budget sheets.

It really does depend if you want the hassle of managing things yourself.
