Paypal HOW???

Hello all

Im new to Paypal.

Ive set up an account and have a linked credit card to the account but dont feel happy in setting up a linked bank account.

Is there anyway that i can use paypal without linking my bank account to it?

If so then how do I pay via paypla using my credit card?

Hope this makes sense and thanks for your help!

Paypals safe, never had any issues with it nor heard of any issues where customers were directly hit, in the past when they have had security issues (and only two come to mind in the whole 10+ years I've been a member) they just shut the site down and fix it, no one has to my memory reported having suffered a loss as a result and I'm sure paypal would compensate if it was a fault on their part.

I would register maybe both a bank account (open a new one and put limits on it if your that worried) and then you can add credit cards. If you want to soley use your credit card you can set up your account to do so. If not every time you go to pay you have a drop down list of all the cards you have registered with them and can chose which would be suitable.

Is there a reason your worried about paypal specificly or is it the idea of your current account card being online?

Any payment you make using Paypal will go on the credit card you have nominated.
The only time you would have to give your Bank details is if you for example sold something on eBay and were paid by Paypal and wanted to withdraw into your Bank account.
I have been using Paypal for several years with no problem.
    Born to shop;)
  • fenella is right, if youre just buying things your paypal balance stays at 0 and whenever you buy pay for something paypal pays on your behalf then charges you (i think)

    Thanks all
I was just a bit weary of giving Paypal my currenct account details.....and i didnt want to open a new account either!
I have registered my credit card on paypal and now should be able to just pay via paypal on that cc.

Thanks again for all your help!
  • Isn't there a fee when using your cc?

I sent money to one of my brothers recently, before doing this he told me to link my current account as there would be a fee of around 3% otherwise. Does this not apply to purchases as well?

I know that the standard way to pay on eBay is using its online payment system Paypal; this works well for buyers, as it’s free.

Yet, when selling, the argument’s reversed: Paypal wallops sellers with a fee of 3.4% (not sure if it's still this amount) of the amount paid, plus 20p for each transaction. May be the same when sending money (??).

I found out this info after signing up to PayPal recently. I bought something from DealExtreme not all that long ago and used my CC and don't recall being charged alright, appears not according to what you say. DealExtreme use PayPal for their transactions so had to sign up, glad I did though.

I've used a Mastercard credit card and never been charged additional fees from paypal.

Maybe they have something in their terms and conditions? or you could send them an enquiry? would be good to know so we all know what types of card to avoid using if it is certain types!
  • I've just sent PayPal an email. I'll post their reply as soon as I get one from them.
  • Reply from Paypal is as follows:

In regards to your sending money in PayPal is free. The only time that you will be charged by 3.4%+20 pence is when you received a commercial payment (like for example items listed on eBay).

    Hope this helps.
