Set up a basic bank account with another bank for your ESA to go into. Basic ank account means no lending facilities so no temptation.
When you have this up and running call the bank you have the OD acc with.
Explain your situation and that you are no longer in a position to keep paying funds into the account.
All banks have a debt collections dept and they will put your acc to them which will stop charges continuing and they will arrange a payment plan with you.
Best do this asap before the charges continue to build or they sell the debt0 -
Hi, I don't have expert advice but I just wanted to say try not to panic.
I would think you should contact your bank and explain your financial situation and ask them to freeze daily penalties etc. You should probably look to set up a new account somewhere else - without an OD, so you can get your benefit put in there. I know its difficult and upsetting, but its probably better than trying to ignore it (I ignored my difficulties for far too long and ended up in a right pickle).
I'm sure someone will be along soon with some good advice.0 -
Also, see the sticky near the top of this forum about where to go for impartial free advice.
Good luck.0 -

Well done. Yes, it may be messy but you're taking steps to sort it out and its never actually as bad or catastrophic as it feels when you're in a tizz (note to self....!!)0 -
I know they're horrible to speak to, but make sure you do speak with LLoyds. If you don't they are going to keep on piling on charges, even after you've opened your new account.
The best thing to do for now is to cancel all of your DDs and SOs right now with them. That way, you're not going to get any more failed transactions (which you are charged for each one). Then set them up again on your new account. Call the companies involved and get them to send through new DD mandates for you to fill out your new details.
As sickasachip said, it's never as bad as it feels."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0
