Interest charges, late fees, etc, etc (Barclaycard)

Options
I am trying to get my debts sorted once and forall this week and have a credit card debt with Barclaycard that was initially £1000.00. I advised them (along with other companies,) in 2009 of my change in circumstances (losing job, then me and dh split,) you know the story, and requested that they freeze all interest charges, late fees, etc. I cannot really fault other companies and am now working my way through clearing my debts.

Basically, Barclaycard have never frozen any charges and they passed the debt onto a company called Albion but all the time I have been receiving Barclaycard statements with additional charges on, every month I have written back asking them not to keep adding charges. Now the debt has escalated to £2144 and first credit have taken it on.

Is there anything I can do about this or do I have to accept it and work out a repayment plan with first credit based on their £2144 figure??

I am so annoyed when other companies have been understanding but based on this figure to Barclaycard, it will take me a very long time to clear. Help please.

Deb

You can certainly demand a breakdown of the current balance to see if it has been arrived at fairly.

  • I have exactly the same situation. All my other creditors have stopped charges but Barclaycard are still adding interest every month. At this rate it will take 8 yeras to clear the debt. If it has now been passed to an agency to collect, the charges etc will stop but it is still worth going back to Barclaycard and asking them to reassess the amount you owe.
