Good Evening Everyone,
I was just wondering if someone please give me some legal/debt advice. MDR have rang my parents mobile asking to speak with me, my parents asked who was calling and asked how they got their number and the lady said "Oh you son must have gave it to us", I have NEVER given out my parents number before. Can they legally ring my parents, and ask for me, when I never gave them that number?
I had a similar experience with another debt recovery firm a few years ago and I'm not sure if what they did was legal. They sent a letter to one of my neighbours, it was addressed to me but with care of to their address.
I was wondering if anyone else has had any similar experiences like this? Or if anyone can tell me if what these two companies have done if legal and where I stand in these situations?
I am in quite a strange situation, I work on board cruise ships sailing through different parts of the World, I am currently on vacation from them. As we work 6 months on 1 month off (so I am on my month off). I am trying to get my finances sorted but, I am finding it difficult as I have to get everything sorted in a very short time. I have been in contact with CCCS and they are assisting me. But it is very difficult whilst I am on board the cruise ship.
I appreciate anyones help in this matter.
Regards,
Dave

i think its terrible that these dept collectors resort to tricks to get hold of their alleged clients to speak to them, you do have the right l believe to ask for all contacts be by mail, it would give you some breathing space while you are at sea.. l do not know how you go on while you are at sea.. The thought is do you have a debt with Moorcroft, l know they are link to RBS, and related offices.. Another thought how did they get hold of your parents mobile number? l am sure people here will be able to help you more....best of luck0

Hoping someone can enlighten me, but am not entirely sure how Moorcroft got your parents mobile number??
Ultimately, you owe them money (or the company that have sold the debt onto them) and they will try and contact you. Write to them stating you will only deal with them in writing. Maybe, considering your circumstances, conversations by email would be more appropriate.
One of my debts is with Moorcroft and, I know unlike a lot of other people on these boards, I have been lucky enough to have civilised dealings with them,

Correct - phone contact is absolutely out of the question as far as Morecrapped are concerned.
I'd send the 'prove it' letter, which has to be unsigned (it's vitally important you don't sign it!), and sent recorded delivery at least.0 -
I had issues with these people when I had debt passed to them, I asked for eveything in writing for my own records and never to contact me by phone and they agreed to this, eventually we came to agreement to pay £20 a month until debt was paid off.
Hope you get it sorted0 -
Not sure with regards to whether it is legal or not, but unsure where they would have got your parents mobile number from unless you have had associations with it.
With regards to the neighbour, I highly doubt it but someone will clarify I am sure.
Have to say with Moorcroft, I have a BarclayLoan I have defaulted on. They took it over, sent me a letter saying they were chasing payment. I replied with the standard I am on a DMP blah blah blah, I can afford £20 per month, included income and expenditure and they accepted and I set up a standing order. Everything done it writing for records too.
Let us know how you get on.Start (27 March 2012): £25,683.20
Current (17 July 2012): £21,145.17
Paid off: £4538.03 (17.7%)
Debts cleared: 4 ... To go: 30
Aim No 1: Get debt under £20k before October 12! :beer:0
