Hi all!
Thanks for taking the time to read this
Over the past month or so have been gathering information on S&S ISAs ready for the next financial year (11/12). To summarise my posts to date follow the decision process I have taken to date:
Decision to move from Halifax S&S ISA to Hargreaves Lansdown S&S ISA:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3043752
Decision to pick funds rather than utilise a multi-manager portfolio:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3044404
Decision on funds, sectors, weighting and investment strategy:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3054566
A BIG THANKYOU TO THOSE WHO PROVIDED OPINIONS AND EXPERIENCES IN THESE POSTS!
As such to give back to MSE and for my own benefit I thought a fund diary may help educate those on the S&S ISA hunt in the next (and future) tax years.
Will aim to update at least once a month - the first post to commence today (after the portfolio statement)!
Feel free to leave opinions/experiences/(constructive) criticisms etc. All input will be greatly received

So for those not familiar with my previous posts my investment strategy fell under two categories (i) initial investment and (ii) regular investment.
My existing S&S ISA was transferred from Halifax. As a view to protecting this a more risk-controlled portfolio was designed. As such until by regular investment funds build up (excluding those included in the initial investment) most my chatter will be about the initial investments.
Investment was made throughout today for the initial portfolio with 4/5 funds being complete. Given the recent disturbances around the world most stock exchanges lost value – not a bad time to invest.
The Hargreaves Lansdown (HL) interface is brilliant – I cannot knock it in the slightest. Learning so much more than from Halifax. They are also prompt to deliver contracts paperless – feeling green
As a bonus the Money Laundering identity verification was also completed today so my regular investment has been set up (for both this and next tax year – had separate boxes ready for me – impressed!)
I am also signed up to:
- CityWire – I would recommend this to anyone. Brilliant for assessing funds!
- Trustnet – Again a strong recommendation. The FundsWire emails any updates about my funds direct to my email address and allows me to build portfolio analyses to assess risk (market/sector/country breakdowns etc.)Hope For The Best, Plan For The Worst0 -
Hi all!
The final initial (below) fund has been confirmed as purchased today - so all now is in place for the initial investment.

Receving lots of information from CityWire and Trustnet - if anything particular applies or might be useful I will post it up
Hope all is well,

Hi Coeus, great idea to start a diary for yourself to see how you go, good luck.
As a fairly new investor myself I can highly recommend Morningstar UK for research. Have a look at the Xray tool. It shows if you have stock overlap, a great breakdown in sectors invested in and lots more. H-L is great (I have my portfolio with them), if you ever have any issues phone them or email, they are so helpful. Slight word of caution though, they do promote a lot of funds which they are paid to do so (would be interesting to see how much!), so by doing what you are doing, your own research, it should avoid you being caught in the marketing hype.
Good luck!0 -
Coeus . . no offence, but don't you think it might be a good idea to get out a bit more?0

Newbie2saving - thanks for the Mornstar UK note. Will check it out - see how it rivals to CityWire.
Bendix - you could be right. But, although this needed to be done setting this up has also served as a distraction from revision - exams on the horizon! Can justify it as exams are financially based but still a little distraction
Academic - Ouch. I would have never thought of checking the stats. Clever person you areHope For The Best, Plan For The Worst0 -

Said the man who has made over 4000 posts in less than 2.5 years. And most of them sniping at the efforts of others.
I'm far more interested in anything the OP has to contribute than the negative postings of Mr bendix.Take my advice at your peril.0 -
Agreed! Shut up Bendix (at least in this case).0

I for one think more people should take time to look at investments and their money spending in general, perhaps this country would be in a better state if they did.0
