  • I used Hatton Garden Gold which is a postal service. They were really honestand fast. There is a thread somewhere on here about them. Make sure you bung in all your old bits and pieces. Even little bit of broken chain. I took my rings to the local jewllers first and confrimed that they were paste etc and was advised to smach out the the glass before weighing and sending them off. Did this with a hammer and chisel in the garden so I had a really good idea of the weight.

I have quite pecise scales - you have to log what you have ie the carrat and how much - sounds complicated but it's not if you have a magnifing glass or something like that.

Given the honesty of HGG I don't think I would have worried quite so much as they relocated some of my broken bits (where I couldn't guess the carrat) into the higher grade gold. I also had some foriegn gold which they sorted out. The money was paid ia bacs on the same day.

    Good luck.

Had a really good experience with Tesco Gold. If you go to their website, they send you a reply paid envelope. I sent off 42g of broken stuff, and received an emailed offer within a week. They confirmed it as weighing marginally more than as per my scales, and sent an offer - I accepted, and the money was in my bank that day! £10 per gramme, and local cash converter type places only offering £7
  • I recently came across a great video from a news team that checked into a bunch of different websites where you sell gold. They sent the same gold bracelet to a bunch of different places and found that My Gold Depot (mygolddepot.com) gave them the best return. With that in mind, I sent them a bunch of old and broken gold jewelry I had and got back more money then I thought I would - $160! You should check them out if you are looking for real cash for gold and silver junk you have just sitting around!

I think Tesco are still offering their £10 a gram promotion for 9ct - if not Hatton Garden Metals will be offering something close to it.

If neither of them suit you let me know and I'll take it off your hands! :D

  • You have taken a very good decision, the gold rates are really high and it is a very good time to sell it. Before selling your gold, make sure that you are aware of the exact rate of gold the day you are selling it. I would suggest you to search online; you will find lot of gold buyers. Make sure that you deal with the best one.

They aren't a postal gold site, but The Manchester Gold Company pays the best price in the North-West.. The total I received worked out to be a few pennies below Hatton Garden Metal, but I didn't have to post my gold and best of all they paid me cash and weighed all items in front of me on their scales which were Trading Standards certified. A ring I though was 9 carat they identified as 18 carat AND they paid me twice as much for that!! . I wouldn't touch the other postal gold companies after a friend of mine had a bad experience though I believe HGM are a good company. BTW Tescos are paying £8 a gram, well below Hatton garden metals and The manchester Gold Company
