I have received aletter from HMR&C stating they are taking me to court for unpaid NIC.Dating back to 2004-2006,they say i owe them £182.70 including charges .Most of the time i have been on I/S or job seekers allowance which i thought they pay your stamp and then i had a part time job which some weeks they were taking N/C .I have tried 3 days to contact them and the phone line is busy. What do i do can they take me to court as im currently on the sick and my partner is on incapacity benefit and we are struggling now.Im at my wits end .Weve had a bad year and now his any advice .They sayit helps towards my pension. They are even threatening with bailiffs

It sounds like a mistake from what you have said unless you have been self-employed and owe class 2 contributions. If you cannot get through on the telephone it would be best to write detailing your work/benefit situation for the period in question and ask them to check your record.0
