I'm stuck at the moment with ideas for my pre-teen who has gone from a fantastic healthy eater to disliking almost all food except potatoes pasta and sweet things! She won't eat any meat now says the texture is horribel. I think it's a hormonal thing, but she's never liked pulses so I am worried about how to get protein in her....she's also gone off Quorn!!

  • i think its good

my aim here will be to maximise nutritional value for the lowest ammount of money

so if someone was to say "chicken" i would do the work and look where you can buy it cheapest and run a list of recepies that would stick inside that persons budget in the hope that it would supply good nutrition avoiding snack foods and saving money

    well thats my hope :)

in the future when my debt is gone i would love to turn this into a full time thing and help others )
  • Hi struboscooby, you want to introduce yourself to Bottleofred. He is in catering as well, normally you will find Red as we call him on Notice to Newcomers. We are quite a collection of Gastronomes. but some folk's especially on a tight budget need all the help they can get. When my DD burns anything (the only time she doesn't is when she cooks salad). She say's it's caramelised:rotfl:

Keep up the good work. I look forward to some of the recipes.
    Regards, Handy.:D

in the sense that she has moved onto sweet things you could try buying sweeter tasting vegetables aswell as fruits

carrots squashes and tomatoes and sweet potatos can all be turned into soups large pots would last you a few days also baked sweet potatos are a fave of mine...smart range veg does not mean it tastes or is in any way inferrior for cooking with...if you like near any farms you can buy your veg direct if shes is that fussy just now. some farms will even deliver

even going down to yoru local vegetable delivery point like knowels ect and looking at what they have left at the end of the day and offer them a price bruised veg turns into soup the same way

let her make her own shopping list and from that you will gain an idea what she is in the mood for that week...if its sweet tooth items she has moved onto it could be a salt deficency in her diet if thats what she is craving for..to stop the craving to fill that hole see if she wants salted or roasted nuts..rasins are good for this aswell...garlic is good for this too (adding garlic to pasta) if thats what she insits on for the day

as far as protein goes rather than me waffle on and on about it here is a good website http://www.highproteinfoods.net/

ill come up with some soup recepies to start with as this seems to be a staple diet for most that are trying cut down on food bills

sorry if i havent put much for on your subject but ill tackle day by day depending on how you get on with this info so far :)
