Cheap sawdust/hay in Glasgow

Hello all,
My animal brood has expanded, and I now have a guinea pig, a hamster and a rabbit, and they go through a lot of bedding - and so I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy bulk sawdust and hay for cheap?
I'm pretty sure it can be sourced for much cheaper than £5 for a large bag at the pet store, and I wouldn't mind driving outwith the Glasgow area, so wondered if any MSE's had any suggestions!
Thanks!

go round an industrial estate and look for joinery firms. most will give wood shavings and saw dust for free....work permit granted!0

Sawdust (and some argue wood shavings) aren't terribly good for small animals lungs etc.
Some of the cheapest substrate items you can use to line cages are BedXcel and Aubiouse, and are both considered to be far better for their health as well.
I know of a place in Ayr where you can source both of these, BedXcel at around £7 a bale, and Aubiouse at around £15 a bale. I promise you one bale will last you months! Have a google and you will see what each of the items are, and you can look to find suppliers closer to Glasgow if Ayr is too far.0 -
Hi ya,
I would call round any local stables / riding schools /farms etc.
I buy one hay bale, every 3 months for £10 and it keeps my 16 hens large house clean and warm, from a local farmer who also keeps horses.I will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0 -
Hi all, thanks for the tips! I'll give them a whirl this weekend - I suspect my next problem will be finding somewhere to keep it all till it's needed! :rotfl:0
