I can't help you on this but i came across this link, it does say though that Fish and chicken is not good for cats with kidney disease either.

I'm sure someone will be along who will be able to give you more advice.

There is a Hills Science diet that is supposed to put less of a load on the kidneys, its one of the prescription ones (more expensive) called K/D. Its very expensive by the tin but the dry version is better value.

We had our cat on the Hills Kidney food
We used the dry food version,we could
only buy it from the vet.I think we used to pay
something like £11.99 a 2.5kg bag,
but it used to last for weeks. We reckoned
it was cheaper than feeding her canned
cat food.
Its a worrying time but our cat was on her
last legs when we took her to the vets.
We were very unsure she would take to it
but we made sure she took her medication
and in time she got to like the food.
She went on to live a relativly normal life
for a further seven years, she was 18 years
old when she died.
But watch out because one time
a daft relative gave her a prawn to eat as
a treat, she was so ill after eating it.Once
they are on the diet stuff they really should
not have anything else except water to

We pick up the dry version of Hills C/D for our cat from our local vet - it's not much dearer than online, and it does work out cheaper than ordinary food.
Our cat has been on it now for 3 1/2 years with no problems. The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
My cat had kidney problems too and we had the dried version for her, much better. Obviously have to make sure there is always water available too.
She had to have steriod injections every now and again but to the vets surprise she too lasted a further 7 years and was 17 when she died.
Makes you wish you took out that pet insurance at the start doesn't it? We've been caught out with both dog and cat for expensve treatment over the years. The next new pet is definitely having insurance!0 -

I found rather odd - maybe we just take him of our own accord as and when we want him checked out - as I said it's just a case of us noticing he was drinking alot and he started peeing alot too (in doors - very out of character) that we took him0 -

Yep, cat biscuit type stuff - it comes in a huge bag that we decant into a smaller container for convenience (and to fit into a cupboard!) We do make sure he always has access to fresh water, but the water in his bowl is nowhere near as inviting as that bath tap - so he sits in the bathroom waiting for us to run it...:rotfl:
This site sells the various prescription diets - but do check the price of your own vets stuff too - ours is so similar it's not worth the hassle of ordering online and then being in when it is delivered...

When I had a cat with kidmey failure I was advised to feed her with the lowest protein level of tinned food that the supermarket sold. We also had to give her a smaller portion and add cooked rice which initially she objected to but soon realised that was all she was getting. she was also given multivitamins. Although already elderly at 17 she lived for another year even though she was also blind from high blood pressure due to kidney failure.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
