Women in Business Membership..ye what!?!

I work parttime and tried to increase my hours but company cant afford to at moment.

So I thought i would check out women in business to get myself known, meet some other women in business, network, get some work..that kind of thing.

Individual Membership: £120

Is it me or is that excessive? Are there any other business groups about that arent quite that rate?

There isnt even an option to try it out....

i've a friend who is in bni http://www.bni.eu/viewregion.php?region=37 - i have no idea what the subscriptions are, but it seems to have been incredibly successful for her in terms of networking and strengthening her business.
  • It depends very much on where you're based! BNI has a limited network in NI. if you're anywhere west of the Bann it has little coverage. Is there an active rotary club near you? (that means one that isn't just a lunch club for men to talk about golf...!)

I was a founder member of a previous women's business organisation, Network, in the 1990s. One of the reasons for setting it up was that women didn't at that point have an equivalent meeting place to something like Rotary. Then women began to be admitted to Rotary, and I was invited to join my local club. It was a good way to make contacts, especially on a wider scale at conferences etc.
  • I am up in belfast but I did live in Fermanagh and was part of the Network for Enterprising Women about 6 years ago and I think they were a lot cheaper (granted they wouldnt have had as big a programme of things going on).

What I do know is that a lot of these groups dont need to charge as they have money from INI, sponsors etc- and it can be a price they think they should charge!

I just think, in this time of economic austerity and as many people are losing jobs, organisations like this should be going out of their way to help the more poor but entrepreneurial of us:)

And as I have a family and work parttime- I wouldnt be able to make all the events, would be lucky to make a quarter of them, so it makes it too costly for me!

Maybe i should don a low voice and moustache, grab a golf stick and head into one of those old boy clubs :rotfl:

I was in NEW too when I lived in Fermanagh!

What do you do? Maybe we should start a support thread here for Women in Business!

    Thats a good idea!

We are not only saving money from not joining the WIB but we are also looking at ways to make money! And we arent limited by where we live!

I would say what i do but the moderators may think i am spamming;)
