Help - Mertiforce and Cabot Financial - confused as was paying Meritforce

Options
Hi, I hope someone can help me. Basically what has happened is I have made two payments to MeritForce, for a Simply Be account, using their account details they gave me, via the internet and only paid the second payment a week ago. I have an agreement with them to say I will pay them £10.00 each month which I have been doing since January.

Now what I don't understand is I got a letter in the post over the weekend from Cabot Financial saying that they recently bought the account that I held with Simply Be. I thought Meritforce had this account as they have all the details etc...

I'm now even more confused as it looks like MeritForce haven't received my payments, even though I have details on my bank account saying they went over. So who on earth is the account with and what do I do now?

I'm also in receipt of IB and DLA for severe Mental Health problems, and yes this did cause me to go a bit "bonkers" if you understand what I mean. I have read the Mental Health Guidelines and am even more confused. Do I send a letter off to Cabot explaining that I was under the understanding that MeritForce had this account and that I am in receipt of these benefits for Mental Health problems?

Oh I also got a copy of a letter from JDWilliams saying they had passed it to Cabot enclosed with the Cabot letter.

Meritforce may have been acting on behalf of simply be before they sold the debt and its sounds like it has now been sold to cabot.

I would write to cabot to try to arrange the same repayment plan (if that is still what you can afford).

Did meritforce provide you with full details of the debt? did they write to you or just phone you? Why do you think mertforce did not receive payments? have cabot given you a breakdown of the amount owed and do they payments through meritforce not appear?

Hi Tixy, the amount owed is exactly the same on both Cabot and MeritForce..which I find weird.

The account was originally passed toCapquest, then Robinson Way Limited, then to MeritForce and now after 2 months they have passed it on to Cabot. I'm not sure but I get a nasty feeling about this..

I am going to write to Cabot and see if I can get them to agree the same payment plan - I shall just send them a copy of one of the letters sent to another debtor explaining about my mental health and what I can offer, obviously with the details changed..

I think I should also ask Cabot why the £20.00, paid to MeritForce, hasn't come off my account.

Something seems very fishy here.. Although I am still confused..

We had a similar problem with cabot, they had "bought" a debt which we actually paid off in full to someone else! It may be worth trying to get in touch with Meritforce to get confirmation that they have passed this debt on as you dont want to be making two agreements to pay the same debt!
Cabot are an absolutely horrible company to deal with so if I was you id send them a letter telling them u have an agreement to pay the other people and let them prove they have bought the debt from them?
    Hope this helps xx

CCA whoever's pursuing. If it's Simply Be, the chances of them coming up with original paperwork are next to zero.

Forget about phoning any of these companies - that won't solve anything. Only deal with them in writing.
