Help with Mackensie Hall

My husband received a phone call some months back from MH threatening to send bailiffs round for a £500 debt with Arrow Global (Orange mobile).
As he has learning difficulties he agreed to pay £20 per month to pay this off, but told me he doesn't remember the debt - he was just frightened by what they said on the phone and agreed to pay.
We have since paid about 2 months instalments, but also sent a letter asking for proof of the debt.We heard nothing. We also send a full and final offer which they accepted of £100 on the £500 debt - in a panic to get the debt sorted (still not sure if he liable).
We cancelled the direct debit of £20 a month until we heard from them with proof. Today they have phoned and denied receiving any letter, but asking for the £100 full and final payment over the phone. We asked for proof first before payment, and she said there wouldn't be proof for a mobile phone and the fact that they have his previous address, proves the debt is his. She said if you dispute the debt, contact the police to ask for a fraud number? against the debt and they will stop chasing.
We have not paid anything to them and aware we shouldn't do anything over the phone.
What should we do: Pay the £100 or wait for proof and hold our ground?
Would there even be proof?
Whats best to do now?
Thanks, any advice appreciated.

I would expect them to be able to provide some proof of the debt - at the very least orange mobile bills showing his name and address, the mobile phone number in question and the date of the bills and the amounts involved.
If they don't supply that info then I would suggest you don't pay anything at all.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
