I'm thinking about starting a new company, awarding myself a huge non contributory pension, sacking myself unfairly and then have the company go bust after safely purchasing my non refundable gold plated index linked pension. Or I'll join the workforce down the town hall.0

The company where I work has a very poor subcription rate. I am just about to join after 2 months of chasing, but it seems to be a common feature among low salaried people to not bother. All this scaremongering makes me think no matter what I put in, it won't be enough, and thats how a lot of my co workers feel about it.
I'm gettnig paranoid about the government pensionissue, I'd feel far more confortable if I could save up my own pot with the NI contributions
The problem we face in todays labour market is that we are in and out of jobs all the time The job for life doesn't exist anymore.0 -

during the lunch break and that'll only put me on a 3 day week with a Tuesday start and off on my jollies come Thursday afternoon.
Could even fit in time to be an MEP or sit in the Lords really.0 -

Expenses not good enough these days.0 -
Hey, local government workers pay 6.5% of their salary into their pensions....that seems pretty steep already considering NHS workers pay 3%. I'm sure that in the private sector it is even less.
NHS pay 6.5% (or more at higher salary levels) as well.
Civil Service pay less (1.5 -3.5% depending on when they joined)0 -

Actually you're wrong. NHS workers pay a minimum of 5%. Anyone earning 20,710 & above contributes 6.5%. (It rises again at about 69,900 to 7.5% & then at 110,000 to 8.5%).
I don't think it's steep at all, I'm quite happy to pay it. I would be happy to match the employer contribution of 14% too if necessary to keep my pension alive.0
